It appears that more and more real estate agents are offering real estate commission rebate to attract home buyers. Just try searching the internet for “real estate rebate” or “discount real estate agents” and you’ll get an idea how many agents are now offering real estate rebates. Does it mean it’s a good marketing strategy?
Many real estate professionals will argue that it’s not good practice to offer rebates for a variety of reasons but whether it’s true or now, it appears that real estate rebates are now becoming mainstream.
If you’re a home buyer wondering how rebates work, you can visit the website of the Department of Justice here. And before you ask an agent for a rebate, make sure rebates are legal in your area. The DOJ also published a list of states that allow and prohibit rebates on their website. You can read the list here.
So if you’re planning to buy or sell a home in the near future, will a real estate rebate affect your decision in choosing a real estate agent to work with?

What real estate directories are you listed on?
I recently came across an article that explains why directories should be part of your marketing strategy. The article is a few months old but I think it’s a good read. Here’s just a small part of it:
If you want to make it easier for people to find your small business online, getting listed in online directories is a powerful way to help you do that. It’s also a good way to build your website’s domain authority, because directory listings will increase the number of backlinks to your website—helping you show higher in search results, which can ultimately bring in new leads for your small business. I’ve seen several small businesses grow significantly from spending an afternoon every few weeks on getting listings. So it’s a marketing strategy well worth investing in. As with all search engine optimization (SEO) strategies—especially link building—you have to be careful to make sure you are only adding your business to relevant, quality directories that will indeed improve your online visibility. I’ve developed the following three-step process to make sure you’re able to do just that.
Step 1: Find the Top Directories for Your Business
First off, let’s look at some ways you can discover good online directories to submit your business to. As you come across good directories, bookmark them or add them to a spreadsheet so you can keep track of them. The number of options will depend on your type of business, especially considering there are 222 million results when you search for web directory on Google. For this step, I suggest creating a list of 50 – 100 top directories to start with. Then we will discuss how to evaluate which ones make the most sense for you.
How to dramatically increase your online visibility with directory listings
For real estate professionals, one real estate directory you should consider getting listed is Agents for Less. And if you’re a broker trying to recruit real estate agents to join your firm, We Hire Agents offers free and paid listings.
